In Canada today, more than five million people have hypertension (Evidence-based Recommendations Task Force of the Canadian Hypertension Education Program, 2005). The complications of hypertension include cerebrovascular disease, coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease, as well as chronic kidney disease.
