A WOMAN was besieged with phone callers wanting sex with her 18-year-
old daughter after a neighbor allegedly posted her phone number and a notice
on the message board of a popular website saying she was selling the sexual
services of her daughter.
The notice was posted on the popular sanook.com website.
NatmaThancharoen said she and her family were shocked and puzzled when
they first started receiving the calls. Eventually they began asking callers
why they where phoning her home wanting to have sex with her daughter and
where they got the number.
"The first six callers would not say. Then others told us where they
saw the announcement on the website," Natma said.
"After we explained the situation, they agreed to give us names and
offered to act as witnesses."
Natma said she received the first phone call on Dec 9 when the caller
said he wanted buy aphrodisiacs. Numerous phone calls followed until Jan
5 when the callers began telling her she had posted an announcement on
the website stating that her daughter was lonely and wanted financial support.
Natma said she decided to file complaint with police. A subsequent
investigation and check with Sanook.com and an Internet service provider
traced the action to her neighbor.
Natma said she owed money to her neighbour but could not repay it. A
court had earlier settled the matter by ruling that Natma repay the debt
in installments.
That decision upset her neighbour and set her against the family,
Natma said.
Jaruchai Iam-aram, from Sanook.com, said the site was strict about who
posted messages on its site and the contents of the messages. But he admitted
that sometimes it was difficult to check and prevent such messages from
being posted.
